For this project, we designed custom-made furniture in solid wood for the Abbesses bookstore in Paris, located in the 18th arrondissement.
In this space, rich with character and the style of the bookstore, we redesigned part of the furniture to improve the conditions for displaying literary works, both towards the street through careful work on the display window furniture, and at the reception desk, which was entirely redesigned.
We developed a meticulously calibrated project to meet the client’s needs, in collaboration with the cabinetmaker Letablissement.

We designed each element with attention to detail, while aiming to offer the bookstore more display surface for books, greater flexibility, smoother organization, and easier access to display areas. Another key challenge of the project was to bring more light into the bookstore, as the old massive display windows obscured the transparency, which is crucial to the street. To address this, we designed 360° rotating display towers for the street-facing façade of the bookstore, using models and prototypes. This geometric but also functional setup allowed for increased light intake, clearer organization from both the street and inside, and more functional and larger display surfaces.

We envisioned the new reception desk as a continuation of these ideas: a multifunctional piece of furniture for display, storage, and work for the booksellers.
The project also included a revision of the electrical system and lighting of the display window.
Our goal was to balance the project with the context of the bookstore, characterized by its ‘Cabinet des Curiosities’ style, through the choice of colors in harmony with the existing décor, the reinterpretation of molded details on the furniture legs and posts, and careful attention to the craftsmanship.
